Blog soundtrack:
Needless to say, my blog never evolved last night, because I had a busy day when I wasn’t doing “nothing.” Actually, I tried to post something last night, but due to the three Ts, Transportation, Technology and Tiredness, it didn't happen. Actually, Technology and Tiredness were really the icing on the Transportation cake.
You see, I was waiting for Transportation (hereafter referred to as FedEx) to deliver Nate’s new cute little blue laptop. (I won't mention what kind it is for fear of being accused of advertising products on my blog!) Anyway, while I was busy doing the aforementioned nothing, I missed FedEx. Well, I was doing something when I missed them; however, it was pretty much a small "something" ripple on a Sea of Nothingness.
Now, I assumed (yeah, yeah, you know what happens when you do that) that they’d just leave the new cute little blue laptop on the porch, but nooooooooooooooooo! You have to be here. And, I was here most of the day; again, I was SO busy doing nothing.
I got back from the gym, and I thought, “I should really watch the last 30 minutes of ‘Wife Swap.” Normally, I can’t watch TV when running on the treadmill; however, I ended up watching 5 minutes of it while I was walking after my run, because I was intrigued by what I read from the closed captioning. It was the strict martial arts wife pitted against the artsy fartsy actress devil-may-care wife. (Yes, of course, I was rooting for the artsy fartsy actress devil-may-care wife!)
So, when I got home I thought, “Hmmm, I could watch the last 30 minutes now.” But, I knew I needed to make a deposit at the bank. I decided to be a responsible adult and make the bank deposit. I went off to the bank, made my deposit, and upon return, I saw a little white form attached to the door. Crud! The second I left, the FedEx truck came. This has to be a Murphy's Law. Stay home all day, and no FedEx; Leave, and FedEx arrives!
You know, I don’t know who was more excited about Nathan’s new laptop, me or him. I was partially excited, because now every 30 minutes, he would not approach my desk and ask, “Mom, can I use your laptop for a few minutes?” I think it was also, because I’m a bit of a techno geek, because I found it hard to believe he would be able to do so much with this new cute little blue laptop.
Nathan rarely asks for anything, so I felt that he was deserving of this gift. Like last Xmas, I asked him what he'd like, and he said, "I don't need anything, Mom." A 15-year-old who doesn't need anything? Gasp!
Anyway, I called Nathan, and I told him that FedEx snuck up behind me and snuck off without leaving me his laptop. He said, “Oh.” I could sense his disappointment, and I was disappointed that he wouldn’t have the much anticipated new cute little blue laptop until today. I decided then that I would make the trek to FedEx in West Boylston to fetch his laptop, so he could have when he got home. I dropped Iz off at Ellen’s, and I was off.
I thought West Boylston was a 20-minute ride; unfortunately, I didn’t look at the Map Quest “time to complete journey” estimate until I was well underway – 50 minutes?!?!?!? Once I got off the highway, I had to take a left onto Century Drive; however, it was challenging trying to read street signs when it was already dark (grumble, grumble, evil time change!) at 5pm.
Note to Techno Geek Self: Ask Santa for a GPS. Yes, at that point, it would have been nice to have a GPS utter to me in a Grover, Carol Channing, or Peter Thomas (narrator of the “Forensic Files”) voice, “Jean, you good Mom you for driving to West Boylston to get your son’s laptop, take the next left onto Century Drive.”
Anyway, I did find my way there without Grover, Carol, or Peter, though it would have been fun to have them all along for the trip! Once I got Nate's new cute little blue laptop, I texted him a picture of the box. He texted me back with “Thank you best mother in the world.”
I know I didn’t need to do the road trip to get Nate’s new cute little blue laptop; however, sometimes it’s worth it to go the extra miles to West Boylston to fetch a new cute little blue laptop, even when you can't read the street signs because it's dark, for the best son in the world. ♥
