One insulated beach cooler.
Two children, Iz and Noah.
Three sandwiches, 2 bologna and 1 liverwurst and swiss.
Four dollars and ninety-nine cents worth of fresh strawberries.
Five bags of Smartfood cheese popcorn.
Six cans of Fresca.
Seven times I uttered profanity under my breath as we rode in bumper-to-bumper traffic on Rt. 495 North and Rt 128 North.
Eight times Iz asked me when we were going to be there.
Nine minutes it took us to drive to the Ipswich train station from the beach when we found out the Crane Beach parking lot was full!
Ten thousand degrees in the shuttle bus while waiting for everyone to board.
Eleven times on the way to the beach our stomachs growled collectively for the bologna and liverwurst sandwiches!
Twelve forty-five when we finally made it to the beach.
Thirteen was my lucky number today given that the total travel time to the beach was 2 hours and 30 minutes instead of the usual 1 hour and 20 minutes!
Fourteen times Iz asked me to go into the water.
Fifteen was the charm, and I dove into 61 degrees of "frickin" COLD Atlantic.
Sixteen "Superman glides" Iz demonstrated for me in the water.
Seventeen beach toys Iz and Noah used to create a hole that almost buried them both!
Eighteen minutes after I went into the water the first time, Iz was after me to enter again. "Mom, once you get your shoulders wet, you're not cold," she said as she chattered through her blue lips.
Nineteen times I looked down and saw them playing in the sand, in the ocean, and I smiled.
Twenty very happy fingers and toes submerged in 61 degrees of the Atlantic!
