“No question is so difficult to answer as that to which the answer is obvious.”
~Karl Otto von Schonhausen Bismarck
As most of you know, I have a daughter who is 7 years old. When she’s not going to school, sleeping, or reading books to the cats while she plays teacher, she’s asking me questions, lots of questions! When I answer one question, my answer always leads to another question; in fact, I recently likened her continuous question asking to Dirty Harry reloading his Magnum during a shootout.
Today, I decided to turn the tables. Instead of having Iz ask me all the questions, I decided to ask her some questions. Many blogs ago, I said that every once in a while you should think like a 7-year-old, because 7 is an age at which you have such a unique perspective. It’s one that has not been tainted by reality, has a sense of right and wrong, yet is still touched by thoughts of Glinda the Good Witch.
After our question and answer session this afternoon, Iz and I went to one of our favorite places with Monty. There’s a beautiful trail along the Nashua River. Iz wanted to go back into the water, and so we did.
When not in the water or waiting for Monty to evacuate his bowels or eat some grass, we walked along the trail. Iz was looking for the exact spot we ventured into the water the last time we were there. True to form, there were questions, many questions.
Are snakes faster than turtles?
No.
Are snakes faster than people?
Some are probably faster than some people.
What’s the fastest animal?
The cheetah, I think.
What can snakes do to you? Choke you?
Some can, but we don’t have those kinds of snakes around here. Out West, they have some snakes that can bite you and kill you.
She said, “I’ve heard about that.”
Though sometimes it’s exhausting trying to come up with answers for questions that I’ve never even thought about, I wouldn’t have it any other way. The only way we learn is to question. And, I’m glad Iz has lots of questions, because I know she’ll always have the answers most of the time, even when I’m not around to reply. ♥
Why do you think some people don't like animals?
Have you ever had a dream that really scared you?
If a genie would give you only one wish, what would you wish for?
What are clouds made of?
What is the grossest thing you can think of?
What do you think is beyond the stars?
Do you believe in heaven?
What would you do if you were invisible for a day?
What’s your favorite number?
What is the scariest movie you've ever seen?
What’s your favorite season?
Why do cats have whiskers?
“Animals are such agreeable friends - they ask no questions, they pass no criticisms.”
~George Eliot
Happy weekend, everyone. ♥
